Since the school operates as a blended long distance educational provider, the faculty, students and diagnostic equipment are not located within the school facility. Students receive didactic instruction on-line through “Moodle,” a web based course management system, which allows for 24/7 access to classes and materials. In addition, students receive resident clinical training at a local Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)accredited laboratory or medical center near them.
Our online course management system is software based on standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. In simple terms, they constrain a learner to a fixed set of paths through the training material, permit the learner to “bookmark” their progress when taking breaks, and assure the acceptability of test scores achieved by the learner. Study materials are presented in a range of formats from PDFs through to video and interactive media. Students will participate in group activities such as discussion forums, message boards, blogs and wiki’s (editable web pages). Students can monitor their own progress with online self-review quizzes and receive immediate results and feedback. Lecturers mark assessments online and grade assignments electronically. All participants can share resources through access to RSS feeds, online library collections and e-portfolio.
